Happy Wednesday fellow SCBWI WWA members! It's time to meet another one of our Distinguished Faculty for our 20th Annual Writing and Illustrating for Children Conference; Author (and Playwright) Brent Hartinger. Brent has sold eight novels; including GEOGRAPHY CLUB; a novel about a secret high school gay-straight alliance. Besides books, he writes screenplays, published articles, essays, short stories, newspaper columns, cartoons, and even greeting cards. Brent also teaches writing; you can follow him on Twitter (and get his patented Daily Writing Tips). He also occasionally joins the faculty at Vermont College in the MFA program in Writing for Children and Young Adults.
Here's a Q & A question from a Writer's Digest Interview with Brent;
What is the most rewarding part of writing for the YA audience?
It is absolutely the response I get, which is just so honest and sincere and rewarding. I think adults are far less likely to really get excited about something. … For a teenager, it's an immediate, visceral thing, and the response is often so passionate and so emotional.
