Membership basics

Thursday night was the fabulous opening of our fall season here at SCBWI-WWA. Applause all around for helping make it a success!

So. Now we're under way, and it seems worthwhile to ask: What's in this for you? How can you best take advantage of being a SCBWI member?

During this year, as we stir the pot with new Advisory Committee members and shifts in our accustomed routine, we'll be posting intermittent reminders and tips about different ways members can utilize and maximize their membership with us.

Today's topic: MEMBERSHIP

Let's start with the basics. How do you become a member of SCBWI, or how do you direct someone else to join? If you have a friend, neighbor, or other interested party who's been silently working alone on a project and needs a community, this is for you. If you have a stray critique member who would benefit from our networking or events that put them right under the nose of that match-made-in-heaven agent, read on!

First things first: There is no such thing as a local SCBWI-WWA membership. Local SCBWI-WWA programming is pay-as-you-go. You don't have to be a SCBWI  member to attend everything, but SCBWI members receive discounts and the earliest notification of events. If you join SCBWI, you will automatically be added to our local mailing list and receive email notifications of local events and programs.

To become a member, with all of the associated perks, do the following:

1) Go to the main SCBWI website.

2) Click "Join Now" in the upper right, which takes you through the process and will begin setting up your SCBWI profile and giving you access to the resources and benefits online there, too.

3) Welcome! See how easy that was?

Tell your friends, your writing buddies, and enjoy this amazing organization and all it does to support the process and the business of creating books for children.
